This really was a huge highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka. Beautiful beach and perfect waves to learn on if ur just starting out. The waves picked up a bit during the week for us which was good as we progressed. They managed to get us standing up on the first day and on to a hard board by day 3. Very relaxed style of teaching and really seemed to care about us as individuals. Overall the surf school exceeded our expectations, lovely staff always smiling and a friendly atmosphere. Would highly recommend and want to go back! Dan n Em :)
London, United KingdomI can highly recommend this surf-school and also the nice beach for surfing. All of the staffs are very friendly, the waiters, the teachers and the tuk tuk driver.
The teachers take care dry well of you that you feel safe in the water and you will get great tips of them to improve your surfing skills.
I can also recommend this surf-school for absolutely beginners.

Madrid, SpainI contacted the school by email and they very quickly responded and we were collected the next morning on time. My 11yr old and 13yr old had a 2hr lesson with one to one supervision. They were up and surfing on the first wave after around 10 mins on the beach. 2 hours is quite exhausting but the beach is very safe and the instructors there to give a helping hand in the water. Finished off with a mango lassi and a tuna sandwich from the new restaurant doing surfer snacks.
London, United KingdomOur group of 4 adults took surfing lessons with Ahikava. The surf instructors were all patient and experienced. Dewata beach is ideal for learning surfing. The waves are gentle rolling mush. The beach has a sandy bottom and is relatively shallow so you can walk your board out most of the way. The waves aren't located far offshore so you don't have much of a paddle. One of our 5 year olds also had a lesson. Everyone was able to stand up on their boards. 2 other adults rented longboards to go out on their own. They used foam boards for lessons and had a selection of epoxy and normal fiberglass boards for rental. Rental boards were in okay condition. There were also a few beds/chairs with shade located near their stand and they also have some drinks and food available for purchase. It was nice to have a shady area to rest for the children. The owner is also around, super friendly and accommodating! Thank you for the fun lessons, we definitely recommend Ahikava to anyone interested in surfing lessons.
Shanghai, ChinaWe visit this place and we really liked it. we are good surfers we rent boards from them the boys joined us in the water to surf with us. they are ripping like hell. they know their conditions well. also they do surf lessons in the beach they are really good people to have lesson with. Highly recommended this boys.
Bali, IndonesiaMy son (10 yrs old) and I had surfing lessons here during a family visit to Sri Lanka and had a great time. My son had a short lesson in Bali a couple of years ago but it was the first for me (aged 41; never too late to start!).
We had a great time. Aslam, who owns and runs Ahikava, was a very good, patient coach. One of his crew coached my son. All the guys were very friendly. The school is really just a shack on the beach but it also functions as a juice/snack bar. We had a break in the middle of our two-hour lesson and ordered two lime juices to get us fuelled up for the second half; they guys made this from scratch and it was refreshing.
The beach is shallow and rock/coral free so is quite safe even with the forceful surf (I felt my younger son, at six, was still to young to have a lesson as well).
Ahikava is highly recommended.
